The Communications Engineering Lab (CEL, Prof. Dr.-Ing. L. Schmalen) has an open position as a

Research Associate / PhD Candidate (TV-L, E13, 100 %)

with a limited contract duration and salary category E13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements. The typical duration to get a PhD is 3 to 5 years.

The tasks of the position include, but are not limited to, the support of teaching activities at the Communications Engineering Lab (CEL) and carrying out independently research in the field of reliable and robust communication systems for multiple applications such as, e.g., Industry 4.0. This includes the mathematical analysis of new data transmission schemes as well as the software implementation of simulation and evaluation tools. Besides this, you are responsible for the documentation and publication of selected research results in scientific journals and conferences. The job is associated with the goal of graduating with a Dr.-Ing. (PhD) Degree.


Personal Qualifications

You are in possession of a very good M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and information technology or communications engineering. You have additionally profound knowledge in communication theory and signal processing, are fluent in spoken and written German and English, and you are able to work independently and responsibly. Ideally, you have experience in programming and further knowledge in one or more of the following topic areas: coding theory, information theory, optical communications and artificial intelligence. You have confident manners and are professional in dealing with project partners, students. You are a team player and you are equipped with organizational talent.


At the CEL, you can expect an interdisciplinary research environment at the interface betwen electrical engineering, information technology, computer science and physics, offering you large scientific freedom.
