Mobile Communications Workshop

The Communications Engineering Lab (CEL) complements the lectures Mobile Communications I and II with a workshop which allows for getting hands-on experience.

During the workshop, students will use state-of-the-art mobile phones to understand how mobile phones register with a mobile network, base stations are selected, and different frequencies are selected. We will further perform field measurements to track the signal quality at different places across Karlsruhe to understand how it changes by moving behind buildings or along streets. The recorded data is used to compile a coverage map. Finally, we will use machine learning tools to further analyse the data recorded.

The workshop is primarily intended for students who attended the lecture Mobile Communications I, and who have a basic understanding of mobile communication systems. It is limited to 15 attendees, it will be held in English, and it will take place at six dates starting end of November. If you are interested in the workshop, please register in Ilias and join the introduction session on 6.11., 14:00 at Hertzstr. 16, Building 6.45, Room 213. Attending this session is mandatory to be registered with the workshop. If you have any questions, please contact Jonathan.
